The NC30 was a full redesign that made the VFR400R look like a small RC30. It switched to a 360-degree 'big bang' crank for stronger midrange, and it brought twin headlights, a 17-inch front wheel, a centre-lock rear wheel on the Pro-Arm and a back-torque-limiting clutch. A shorter wheelbase and a more compact engine package gave it sharp handling. It became one of the most admired 400 cc sports bikes.
